UNPLUGGED OAKLAND FALL 2023 $1,350 RAISED!!!

Unplugged Oakland is a 10 hour music festival, benefitting local causes close to our heart while creating a livly space for everyone to enjoy a day of local live music and whismical joy. This year’s festival benefitted the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh, aiming to give a platform to local artists while contributing to a good cause. The festival consisted of performances by 10 artists, local vendors, promotion of our generous sponsors, as well as several speeches by attedning guest speakers. Our Fall 2023 festival raised $1,350 for the Humane Animal Rescue, thanks to our generous sponsors Amazing Books & Records, Sigma Nu Case Western University Chapter, and Universal Compassion Sangha of Dallas. This also woulden’t have been possible without audince donations and our 10 collabrative performing artists!

-“Unplugged” is a multifaceted media project directed by Rory Monaghan to create a platform for local artists and creatives while increasing students accessibility to Oakland’s DIY music scene and creative culture. The project works to create a template for individuals looking to find shows, learn to make music, start a band, create a venue, or even curate/incubate a new scene all together. The project also aims to study the sociology of DIY culture, and investigate how social media is used as a modern medium for artistic expression and the organization of shows, events, and DIY spaces similar to those I have run in the past. The name “Unplugged'' was chosen as a representation of the fruit of this digital labor. In the modern world, one must plug in (utilize social media and other digital mediums) to become optimally “Unplugged”, and enjoy DIY creative culture singing, dancing, and making friends away from the screen.

Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh (HARP) is one of Pennsylvania’s largest non-profit organizations dedicated to the welfare of animals, pet owners and the community. HARP operates two low-cost, high quality veterinary medical centers. In an average year, over 6,500 animals are treated and more than 7,000 spay and neuter surgeries are performed in these facilities. In addition to caring for domestic animals, the organization remains committed to indigenous species. The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is a fully licensed wildlife facility that specializes in caring for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. Annually more than 4,000 injured wildlife of over 100 unique species are admitted and treated by the Center. Among them are more than 2,300 mammals, 1,700 birds and over 50 reptiles.
